How long video 7d

If the indicator becomes full, movie shooting may stop automatically. Alan, Larry, thank you both for your replies. No parts of it appear hotter than any other. The function worked with this until a few weeks ago. I have recently upgraded the firmware to 2. I look forward to your suggestions The camera will stop recording when the file reaches 4GB or when you reach 29 minutes 59 seconds, whichever is first.

If you're shooting full HD, you're always going to get to the 4GB mark first. This is indicated on page of the user manual. Thank you Rob. I'll make sure it's taken care of if you ship it to me.

I'll even pay freight. That's all it can address. As far as I know the 7D 2. No change to resolution, frame rate or length of recording. I paid once a few years ago and have received free updates since. If I want to do more extensive edits, I still use Aimersoft to convert the surveillance video, but can then use any of my commercial video editors. I did not try to edit it. I did check my downloads folder for the previous install of VLC not that I know if it worked but I have deleted it anyway!

My next step is going to be uninstall VLC and try again in case something went wrong with the installation, I have to believe that it would play something one of the cameras outputs, I thought I had a breakthrough when the Windows defender popped up interfering with things after another restart but still no joy!

As this is now a software question I think I will close this thread and move over to the software area. If you were using VLC 64bit, it may be worth trying the 32bit version. The 64bit is known to have some issues, it is not the main release. VLC was just a suggestion though. There certainly are other programs that should work for this.

I just don't know them. Like I said, lowering the nitrate with ML might save you the hassle of joining files otherwise. I've used the Bitrate control on my D T3i to go the other way and increase quality.

Got not issues doing that. Lowering it I haven't tried yet. But if I understand what you're doing, the camera will be static, right? Lowering the Bitrate shouldn't be noticeable in such a case. Artefacts arise with scenes that have a lot of unpredictable motion and very fine, chaotic detail like grass, water or foliage. A camera on a tripod filming moving people shouldn't suffer from this nearly as much.

The ML warnings are just warnings. ML does not change anything about the camera. There was a separate version once, that actually could change the camera. Because of that, it was banned from the official ML releases and the guy who made it didn't get any help from the others with it. But I get your concerns. I was just naming a few more options if the restart wouldn't be good enough for you. Mar 25, 5 0. Valvebounce said:.

Hi 5DIV. Thanks, that is a good thought, but the ML install says first format the card in camera. I still need ML for the wired remote control to work video! Show hidden low quality content.

Dec 20, nickorando. You can increase that time by reducing the resolution. Either way you are limited to recording files where the file size will not exceed 4GB.

If there is continuous speaking for an hour or so and you are only using 1 camera, A video enabled DSLR may not be the best choice. Rent a second camera. Does anyone know if the firmware hack will ever support continuous shooting, like a sony cam where is takes two 12 min tracks and stiches them in camera. Can't really see any problem. Editing shouldn't be a problem either, using Premier Pro on an iMac Intel i7 with maximum ram and stoarage.

The problem lies with the 4GB limit. It looks as if I will have to dust off my year old XM1, I am sad to say. Though I would love to hear of any firmware hacks Greg hinted at. Why is it such an issue for the developers such as Canon to allow users to film continuously with a DSLR?

The 4GB limit restricts you to about 12 minutes video at the HD video settings page in the manual. Your card is plenty big enough to hold 1 hour of video so you could stop the recording around the 10 minute mark and then immediately start it again. You will need to do this about 5 times 6 counting the final stop with no restart.

Its a pain but "doable". I think a full battery charge and running the LCD at lowest brightness setting should get you through an hour of video recording but can't say for certain as I've never recorded that much at one time. I would think that the USB2. An a separate but releated note, I wonder if the video quality will degrade over such a long period of recording due to heat build up in the body.

To be honest, I think having a separate body with a different perspective would truly be the best option. This way you could change the view that the audience of your video sees periodically when you process with Premiere Pro.

This would reduce the view fatigue of looking at the same person from the same spot for the entire duration of your recording - but that may not be feasible for you. It would be great if you could even record some pans of the audience, specific audience members absorbing the lecture or something else that just change things up a bit It seems to me that you are going against the whole point of a DSLR video.

You use one to get shallow DoF and possibly for the 24p option. But why do you need the 24p film look with shallow DoF of a guy at a lectern for an hour straight with no cutaways?

No need to worry too much about focus or filesize limitations. Thanks guys for all your input. You raised a number of very good issues. First one of course, it's boring to have one shot for an hour anyway that had occurred to me too hence the idea of overlaying the speech with illustrative footage or stills , but the idea of having a second camera with shots of the audience and close-ups should really liven everything up.

Spending extra money on even a cheap HD cam do they shoot long continuously anyway? I may just equip myself with a stop watch and rely on cheap family member labor to stay guard at one camera, while using the 7D placed at the side of the stage collecting shots from the audience and close ups of the speaker. Then everything should just be down to Premier Pro. The file limitation still bugs me though from a purely creative point of view.

What about not being able to do time lapse? I don't mean the speaker of course. I hope this threat will attract further lively discussion. Would be great if Canon's attention could be drawn to this flaw, because that definitely is a BIG one. The battery would probably last an hour, but, It may last longer depending on it's age. For 32GB, you're looking at around 96 minutes of full HD x footage.

Isnt the XM1 a aspect ratio video camera? That would be a total deal breaker for any current day video capture. Even SD is displayed in , never in Are you using a wireless mic on the speaker? If you cant hear him clearly and without room noise, the video is useless. Without a continuous video capture, you are going to have breaks obviously.

Usually you edit a video during editing, not shooting. You could use a digital audio recorder to capture the audio off your wireless mic, but then you would have to sync and timeshift the audio in post. This is a project for a dedicated video camera. Depending on the clients expectations and the importance of the event, the client may want a video professional for this.

The speaker uses a clipon microphone with a transmitter conneted to a sound system, not at all sure how this will affect the sound quality. Your digital portable audio recorder suggestion could be the answer. I have no idea whether is will pick up the sound from the speaker or the sound system and whether this could be a problem. Agree, a well equipped pro would be the answer, but the "client" is a friend with only a favor as a budget.

It looks increasingly like the XM1 may provided the simplest and probably the only solution, with its stereo microphone simply picking up the sound from the sound system.
