How many baseboards on one circuit

I have two baseboard heaters to install on a V, 20A circuit. One heater is w and the other is w. Obviously I will be waiting for my electrician to come and do this but I am curious as to how both heaters will be plugged. Instead they would be connected in parallel along a daisy chain of wiring like shown here.

Note that the below does not depict the safety ground wire connections. The cable will have ground and two hot wires, we'll call them black and red. The "red" wire may be the white wire taped red, or even taped black. Doesn't matter which. At heater 1, red and black are each tapped. These red and black taps go on opposite poles of the heater. Don't forget a branch for your thermostat. That must come off the first heater in the chain. I'm not sure of that's required by Code for V heaters, or for Canada, but do it anyway - you'll thank me later :.

You don't want thermostats at the heater, because you want the heat switched based on the room's temperature, not the heater's. Right at the heater is obviously much warmer than the rest of the room. Even a remote thermostat can be thrown off by the heating that occurs inside its wire connections. Loads are generally connected in parallel across the Volt mains. Together these loads draw 6. What is the maximum wattage for a 20 amp circuit? Do baseboard heaters need their own circuit? How many amps is volts?

How many watts is a 6 foot baseboard heater? What size breaker do I need for a watt heater? How many amps does a watt heater draw?

Power Current Voltage Watts 7. What size room will a watt heater heat? How many amps does a TV use? Is a double pole 20 amp breaker 40 amps? How many watts can you run on a 15 amp circuit? How many amps is 10 watts? Because a amp breaker would be too small, you need a breaker with the next highest rating, which is 20 amps.

Include the current draw of any other devices on the circuit when calculating the breaker size. Electric baseboard heaters are relatively cheap and easy to install.

At the time of publication, these units cost a few hundred dollars, or less, and eliminate the need for expensive duct networks throughout the home, making them much more affordable than furnaces or heat pumps in terms of upfront costs. Electric baseboard heaters on average need watts per foot. Multiply the heater length by to estimate wattage. This formula works for both volt and volt heaters. Baseboard heating works through convection. Within the baseboard , the air is warmed by a series of metal fins that have been heated through electricity.

The warm air then rises from the baseboard , and the pattern repeats itself, creating a circular flow known as a convection current. Electricians generally recommend volt because it uses lower amperage and is more energy-efficient than volt. Adding a volt baseboard heater usually requires a new or amp double-pole circuit breaker and new circuit wiring to supply one or more heater units.

Some use volts, others require volts. The main difference between these two voltages is the amount of current drawn by the heater. A 2,watt, -volt heater uses 8. Electric baseboard heaters use different voltages.

So a volt circuit running on a 20 — amp , double-pole breaker , can have any combination of heaters up to 3, watts. For example, using just one thermostat, you can install: Two 1, watt heaters , or. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment.

Press ESC to close. The looped copper wire would be connected to the green grounding screw in the heater wall can. I know that's a lot to take in.
