It has a number of buildings which have been registered on the Register of the National Estate and many buildings in the main street - Ipswich Street - are fine examples of late 19th century vernacular Queensland architecture with fine joinery.

They are handsome timber structures. The Club Hotel The Club Hotel at Ipswich Street, with its cast-iron balustrades and gracious verandas, is a fine example of a Queensland country hotel. The land was purchased by Lars Andersen in and by it was connected to the steam-driven saw mill behind the Club Hotel and thus was the first house in the town to have electricity. The town was eventually electrified in It has a superb corrugated iron hipped roof with a veranda that is a showpiece for the joinery skills of the time.

It is officially on the Register of the National Estate. With its distinctive gabled roof now closed in and overhanging veranda it is listed as a fine example of small commercial premises in a Queensland country town.

Bellevue Homestead One of the area's first settlers established the huge Wivenhoe run in the s. It was here that the remarkable Bellevue Homestead was built in after the original pise residence had been destroyed by floods. Originally located on the banks of the Brisbane River it was moved some kilometres to Coominya in when the site was flooded by the Wivenhoe Dam. The building was occupied by George Taylor and his wife in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Important members of Queensland society, the Taylors hosted numerous parties at the home. The large rooms, unusual pressed metal ceilings, and beautiful cedar panelling all combine to make Bellevue a particularly interesting example of Queensland vernacular architecture.

The community spirit is wonderful and is something that can not be bought, but comes from the heart and sole of good people. Esk needs visitors to help support the towns economy.

The roads are open and it is a clear path into this wonderful country town. A drive in the country to this friendly town will be the start of love affair. You have to come and discover for your self Last saturday I was driving upcountry through Esk, good to see Wivenhoe full, and cqalled in for petrol and the Courier mail. But even I was surprised that the town was full of 'Ironbark' full bearded old men; standard dress is dungarees and plaid shirt plus a big bushy beard.

Now I used to like Esk but this retro back to Banjo Patterson is too much. If I want beards I'll go to a beardy place but I always wonder about how esk sees itself. Mates in Brisbane rave about it as the authentic Aus experience but I have my doubts.

I think the couple of tourist draws are just overpriced, the local shopping mall is a tiny place with a nice coffee shop but its not Quenn Street by a world away. Reasons to live here? If you've got a big beard you'll probably fit in well. Add some denim and plaid and you'll probably be a trendy councillor.

For modern people, like going to work, connectivity, et al, sorry but its a big miss. Too Retro hahaha what a ridiculous comment. The people are great, friendly and we have been readily accepted by most. It is a pleasure to be able to walk down the street, to enter shops and to meet friendly faces and to encounter people whom we know - certainly not be just a number as is the case in so many bigger centres.

No, the night life is not great if you want loud brash 'thump-thump' type of music but we have found the the social life to be outstanding in that we have entered into community life, have joined a couple of local organisations and have found the community spirit to be exceptional. We love Esk! Rochelle, l personally think Esk is a much better place to live than Fernvale. The people are friendly everybody helps everybody there are lots of wildlife and lots of birds and parrots it is a great place for family.

Sadly, in recent years a few nice 'Queenslanders' have been allowed to be moved out of town. Position within Australia. Your location.
